Performance Appraisals

"A horse gallops with his lungs,
Perseveres with his heart,
And wins with his character." ~ Tesio

Have you ever experienced a horse racing?

Why does the horse run to his breath out?

Does he have anything to do with the prize money?

There are a lot of such questions that no one might never have thought about. However, the answer actually lays beneath the question lines themselves. A horse doesn’t run for prize money or fame, he just runs, only because he likes to run when his master makes him run. He does not want any special grass in lunch. All he need is gentle touches of his master on his back.

“The spirited horse, which will try to win the race of its own accord,

will run even faster if encouraged.”

The reason I’m writing this here has a message to tell. Every now and then, and in every situation we all come across Performance Evaluations and Appraisals and Awards. No matter if we are on job, or in studies, or making movies in showbiz, or even in home where the evaluators are our elder siblings and parents. With the results, we are often happy, and sometimes, when it doesn’t come our way, we take it wrong. And unfortunately in that point of desperation, some of us make bold decisions that we don’t fully understand either. These decisions are sometimes good, and sometimes result in not being good as well. It’s not actually the low wages that drive people in or out, it’s the Managers who are unable to show enough commitment and backup to those fast running horses of organization.

The key thing is the motivation and encouragement. Yes, that is the only thing that is beyond money or increments or appraisals. It’s the commitment that one shows when they are socially bonded with the place where they work. And on the other hand the motivation that organization shows with warmth of their words.

“One word of appreciation is far better than a thousand dollar increment.”
